Senior Materials Scientist

This company is a growing innovative medical device company based in Connacht that have developed a unique material and who are now using this material to address new unmet medial needs. Due to expansion within the company, a new position has arisen for a Senior Polymer/Materials Scientist.

Job Function: Help drive the development of novel biomedical polymeric materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop innovative and functional biomedical materials from first principles.
  • Provide technical input and support of existing material technologies.
  • Work with interdisciplinary team to develop new medical products.
  • Communicate effectively with team members from varied technical backgrounds.
  • Stay up to date on the latest activities and market trends / competitor products.
  • Develop strong working relationships with existing key external partners.

Education, Experience and Job requirements:

  • Degree or other third level qualification in Chemistry, (PhD or MSc an advantage).
  • Minimum of 5 years industrial experience in the Polymer / Polymer coatings/ medical Polymer field.
  • In depth knowledge of polymer structure property
    relationships.
  • Comfortable working in a lab environment individually and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with medical device regulatory standards an advantage.
  • The successful candidate must be an innovative, creative and lateral thinker. Be self-motivating, hands on, highly organized with good communication skills and strong problem solving abilities.

Reporting Structure: The Senior Polymer Chemist will report to the Chief Technology Officer.

Key Working Relationships: The Senior Polymer Chemist will be expected to maintain solid working relationships with all members of the organisation; specifically they are expected to work closely with the CTO, and all project team members (product development engineers, scientists and technicians).
